This article provides information about Access bugs and other Office issues reported during Jan 2026 (in order of date reported) including symptoms and action taken.
Once again, relatively few and mainly minor issues with Access this month.

However, there was a major Windows Update issue which severely affected users running 'classic' Outlook in Windows 11.

IMPORTANT:
Insider channels (particularly Beta Channel) are used by Microsoft to test new features before these go to production channels.
It is to be expected that the insider channels may contain bugs. These channels should only be used for testing purposes and NEVER for production use.

Item Bug information Date Reported Reported By Action taken
a) Filtered forms with no visible records cannot be unfiltered from the navigation bar

Filtered subforms can normally be unfiltered by clicking the Filter toggle button in the navigation bar
However, this failed where the filter returns no records as the filter toggle button was disabled

Issue had existed since at least A2010 as well as in all current versions.
2026-01-05 Tom van Stiphout Fixed in Beta version 2603 build 19822.20000 released 24 Feb.

Fixed in Current Channel version 2603 build 19822.20114 released 24 Mar.
b) Monaco expanded 'pretty' formatting alters the layout of passthrough queries

Passthrough (P-T) queries should just be processed by Access with no alterations.
However, the P-T layout is altered including changes to fields and adding carriage returns and blank lines to block comments.
Affects all 365 versions from 2506 onwards with Monaco enabled.

Workaround: Disable Monaco or avoid having block comments in P-T queries

Agreed plan: Automatic expanded formatting will be disabled for P-T queries but can still be applied manually using the Ctrl+K shortcut.
2026-01-07 Ben Sacharich / Colin Riddington Passthrough query field layout is no longer modified starting with Beta version 2602 build 19713.20000 released 2026-01-20.

Fixed in Current Channel version 2602 build 19725.20126 released 2026-02-24.
c) Monaco expanded 'pretty' formatting alters the layout of block comments in local and passthrough queries

Expanded formatting added carriage returns and blank lines to block comments when using /* Comment */ notation.
Multi-line comments using --Comment notation are NOT affected.
Affects all 365 versions from 2506 onwards with Monaco enabled.

Workaround: Use -- notation for multi-line comments in queries until issue is fixed (or disable Monaco)

2026-01-07 & 2026-02-20 Ben Sacharich / Colin Riddington / Gregory Smisek Fixed in Beta version 2603 build 19822.20000 released 2026-02-24.

Fixed in Current Channel version 2603 build 19822.20114 released 2026-03-24.
d) Query context menu errors when full Access menus are disabled.

SQL View missing from right click shortcut menus so it isn't possible to switch to that view from design or datasheet view. In query datasheet view, the context menu also wrongly shows Form View

This occurs with all query types, but isn’t a Monaco specific or Access 365 only bug.
The same issues are seen with Monaco disabled and in older versions including A2021 and A2010

Workaround: ensure full menus are disabled if query view switching is necessary
2026-01-07 Ben Sacharich / Colin Riddington Acknowledged by the Access team. This bug will be addressed at some point.
e) Outlook crashes after Windows 11 January update (KB5074109) released 13 Jan 2026

This update caused numerous and widespread problems with apps that saved to the cloud e.g. OneDrive or Dropbox.

In particular, 'classic' Outlook users who use POP accounts or saved PST files to OneDrive faced issues such as:
• Outlook hangs at startup screen
• Outlook hangs when attempting to send emails
• sent emails go missing
• previously downloaded emails being downloaded again repeatedly

Windows 11 ONLY. Did not affect Windows 10 users.

Workaround: Rollback the Windows update to uninstall KB5074109
2026-01-15 Widespread reports online Acknowledged by Microsoft. Initial advice was to uninstall KB5074109.

Fix KB5078127 released on 24 Jan 2026
f) Peformance leak with subreports

When subreports are repeatedly opened, saved as text or PDF and then closed, the process becomes significantly slower over time.

Issue observed in all versions from 2407 onwards

Linking master /child fields in report / subreport may significantly reduce the impact.

Workaround: Restart Access to restore performance
2026-01-16 Tom van Stiphout Acknowledged by the Access team - priority for fixing not yet known
g) ACCDE library files created in version 2508 or later cannot be used in version 2507 or earlier

Probably caused by changes in version 2508 when RegEx was added to the VBA library (vbe.dll)

The host database shows: Compile error: Can't find project or library

Workaround: Create ACCDE in version 2507 or earlier
2026-01-21 Colin Riddington Acknowledged by the Access team and being investigated.
