Due to a clash with the World Cup, the start of the meeting was delayed by two hours. Apologies for any inconvenience.

This Access Europe meeting was held on Wednesday 1 July 2026 starting TWO HOURS LATER than usual at 20:00 UK time (8PM UTC+1) and finishing at about 21:30 (9.30PM)

The start time is equivalent to 21:00 (9PM) in Central Europe and 12 NOON in Seattle / PST

Topic outline:

This session was in two parts:

1.   A review of some new Access features and those that are rolling out in Summer / Autumn 2026:
      •   New SysCmd actions to obtain version info
      •   Full-screen mode
      •   Zooming feature in forms, reports and datasheets
      •   Removal of maximum form / report width limit
      •   Customisable rounded corners on form / report controls
      •   Cascading comboboxes and listboxes
      •   New date/time picker

2.   Several user interface tips and tricks to add a little magic to your Access databases. These included:
      •   Theme-aware Access forms
      •   New-style Fluent UI message boxes with timeout



Background Info

Colin has been an Access developer for almost 30 years with many years teaching in secondary schools. He is the owner of Mendip Data Systems and is based in the U.K.

Colin Riddington
Colin has been awarded MVP status for M365 Apps & Services (Access) each year from 2022 onwards.

He is the chapter president of the Access Europe user group and has been a presenter at various Access online groups including Access DevCon, Denver Area AUG, UKAUG and the Lunchtime/Easter/Pacific and Espana chapters of AccessUserGroups.org.

He is also part of a team of current and former MVPs contributing as both author and editor to the AccessForever website run by Karl Donaubauer (MVP).

Colin is active on many forums with the username Isladogs.

His Isladogs on Access website includes many Access articles, example apps, sample code and security challenges, together with commercial applications for businesses, schools and developers. He also has his own YouTube channel.

His focus is on extending the boundaries of what can be achieved using Access.
